Organizers of the next World Games are looking for musicians, singers, dancers, magicians and other entertainers to perform for visitors at the international multi-sport competition this summer in Birmingham.

Selected performers will be able to showcase their talents at the World Games Plaza at City Walk BHAM, the sprawling 31-acre park under the I-59/20 bridge in downtown Birmingham between 15th Street North and 25th Street North.

The World Games Plaza will be open daily to the public, media and athletes and will feature live entertainment, food and sports demonstrations, according to a press release. The Plaza will include two performance stages, an outdoor market space, a skate park, a dog park, and more.

“The World Games Plaza will be a free, family-friendly venue bringing together thousands of people from around the world to celebrate this extraordinary event,” Kathy Boswell, 2022 World Games Executive Vice President, Community and Volunteer Engagement, said in a press release. . . “This is an amazing opportunity for people to showcase their talents for the world to see. We are launching a talent search to find musicians, dancers who can reflect different cultures, speaking voices and others who will share their special gifts.This is yet another way for the 2022 World Games to inspire people locally, across the state and beyond to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Artists selected to perform at World Games Plaza will also receive special The World Games merchandise and tickets to selected events.

Interested artists should complete an online application at Applications will be open until March 20. The second phase of the talent search will be the in-person auditions, which will be held in Birmingham on May 28 and 29 from noon to 3 p.m. Selected artists will receive an acceptance letter on June 3.

More than a dozen music stars are due to perform at Protection Stadium for the 2020 World Games events, which take place in Birmingham from July 7-17.

Alabama, Sara Evans, Yung Bleu, Jamey Johnson, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Nelly, Yolanda Adams and many others are on the program for the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Games. Bootsy Collins – a Parliament-Funkadelic veteran, bassist and space-age bandleader – will serve as emcee.

In a statement, the Birmingham Organizing Committee for The World Games 2022 said it expects more than 500,000 spectators to visit the city during the competition.
