Janelle Robinson, NPT Board Member and Gala Chair, said, “After spending the past two years in a constant state of flux, we weren’t sure if and when the live theater would take place this summer.
NPT has opened up new avenues and possibilities, including an outdoor ice cream social and a jumbo-tron for those wishing to see a live performance from a safe distance. Resilient is the perfect way to describe “this little theater that could”. I can’t wait to see our version of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” this summer. With the help of our local community, the Maritime Aquarium and our young artists, the upcycled and refurbished sets and costumes will be a sight to behold. And it makes me happy to know that we have helped to heal our planet. It also seems very fitting that this year’s winner is Jason Patlis, President and CEO of the Norwalk Sea Aquarium. “

“I greatly appreciate this honor, as well as the ambitious partnership between NPT and The Maritime Aquarium that goes beyond staging Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid,’ to include educational programs, beach cleanups and shared outreach efforts,” Patlis said. . “We use the ocean to inspire art; through this partnership, we use art to protect the ocean. This partnership not only allows us to entertain young audiences with ‘The Little Mermaid’, but also to educate this audience – and their parents – about the fragility of the ocean, the impacts of our actions on the ocean and the need to take better care of it.
