KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WATE) – The legacy of WIMZ’s Billy Kidd fight against hunger continues with the 25th Annual Camping for Cans Food Drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. Kidd has made it his mission to raise as much cash and collect as much non-perishable food as possible by camping in a Knoxville parking lot until his goal is reached.

While no one will be camping in a parking lot this year, the radio station is virtually hosting the food drive from November 24 to December 3. To donate, visit virtualfooddrive.secondharvestetn.org/drives/502.

. This is the second year that they have participated in the virtual drive.

“These events are so important to the food bank. Without the community support that we have with these events, we would not be able to provide food to everyone at risk of going hungry in our community, especially during the holiday season, ”said Alison Galyon, Second Harvest Special Events Coordinator.

For those who wish to donate in person, a full-day drive and drive event will take place on December 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Food City, 284 Morrell Road. MEDIC will also organize a blood drive during the event. For each person who donates blood, MEDIC will donate $ 5 to Second Harvest.
