STARKVILLE — Mississippi State University is set to honor its Spring 2022 graduates with a slate of ceremonies Thursday and Friday in Starkville and Meridian.
MSU President Mark E. Keenum will be the keynote speaker for all four ceremonies taking place month. The university will also recognize alumni Colonel Robert L. Barnes and Robert P. “Bob” Bowen with honorary doctorates of public service. Bowen, who died April 5, will be honored posthumously.

The launch schedule for this year 2022 is as follows:
Thursday May 12
- Meridian Campus: 11 a.m. at MSU Riley Center in Meridian
- Starkville Campus: 3:30 p.m. at Humphrey Coliseum (doors open at 2 p.m.). This ceremony will include graduates from the MSU College of Education, the College of Business and the ACCESS program.
Friday May 13 (both ceremonies at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville):
- 9:30 a.m. (doors open at 8 a.m.): Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design.
- 3:30 p.m. (Doors open at 2 p.m.): Bagley College of Engineering, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Forest Resources, College of Veterinary Medicine and Academic Affairs.
Attendance at both ceremonies will be limited to eight guests per graduate and all guests must have tickets to enter. Tickets are free and graduates will be emailed instructions for claiming guest tickets.
Grisham’s new master teachers honored
STARKVILLE — Mississippi State has honored three distinguished faculty members with the university’s highest academic teaching award.
Mike Breazeale, Deb Mlsna and Jacob Tschume are the recipients of this year’s John Grisham Master Teacher Award, honored during a Thursday program on campus.
The Grisham Master Teacher Honor is a tribute to excellence in class and teaching and is named after the MSU accounting alumnus and internationally acclaimed best-selling author who provided funds to endow the price.
Breazeale is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing, Quantitative Analysis, and Business Law at the College of Business.
Mlsna is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Tschume is a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the College of Arts and Sciences.
