SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – Thousands of music fans, many in costume, went wild for rapper Tyler, the creator on the First Night of Outside Lands on Friday, the first such mass event in San Francisco since the start of the pandemic.

“From DC – just to come here and see the festival,” Phil Mach said.

“It was so nice to be around a lot of people and just to be outside and see the music and feel that you are part of the community again,” said Kelly Janu, also from Washington. , DC

The three-day sold-out festival attracts more than 70,000 people every day. Everyone must be vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID test within the past 72 hours.

On Friday night, the Chub Pub on Lincoln Way and 20th Avenue has already seen three times as much business as a normal Friday during the pandemic.

“We have a DJ on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So after 10pm we’re going to be smacked, and we’re very, very excited for that, ”said bartender Anna Massey.

The festival has shocked some residents near Golden Gate Park who dislike the noise, traffic and trash left behind.

“It’s a weekend in the year, that’s fine. I feel like I’m letting people have fun, have fun, next weekend it’s going to be pretty quiet and dead, ”said resident Jack Cramer.

San Francisco Police said everyone was on deck for the department this weekend. Officers are patrolling the area extensively and on Friday there were no major disturbances to report.
